2. Installation

2.1 How to obtain makeman.pl

makeman.pl 0.3 can be obtained from:

• http://mama.sourceforge.net/perl/mama-perl-0.3.tar.gz - as a gzipped source-tarball
• http://mama.sourceforge.net/perl/mama-perl-0.3.tar.bz2 - as a bzipped source-tarball
• http://mama.sourceforge.net/perl/mama-perl-0.3-1.src.rpm - as a source-rpm
• http://mama.sourceforge.net/perl/mama-perl-0.3-1.i386.rpm - as a binary rpm
• http://mama.sourceforge.net/perl/mama-perl_0.3-1_i386.deb - as a debian package

2.2 Requirements

In order to successfully use makeman.pl, you need the following programs and libraries which are available on most platforms as distribution packages and thereby can be installed easily.

Required:

• Perl http://www.perl.com
• SGMLSpm http://www.perl.com/CPAN/authors/David_Megginson
• NSGMLS http://www.jclark.com/

2.3 Compilation and installation

makeman.pl assumes that the Perl executable lives in /usr/bin/perl - if that is not the case, use your favorite editor to modify the first line of the file makeman.pl accordingly.

In order to install makeman.pl from sources, type the following in the directory to which you downloaded the makeman.pl distribution:

% tar zxvf mama-perl-0.3.tar.gz
% cd mama-perl-0.3
% less README
% su
% make install

This will install makeman.pl in /usr/bin, the man page in /usr/share/man/man1/ and the documentation in /usr/share/doc/makeman/makeman-perl/

To install from RPM or .deb, please refer to rpm(1) or dpkg(1).
